Georgina Sherrington

The Worst Witch was Georgina Sherrington's first ever acting role.  She decided that she wanted to be an actress when she went to one of her friend's drama workshops at age seven.  One day the Worst Witch production team arrived, looking for children to star in their new series, and Georgina, after a few auditions, was picked out to play Mildred.  Sadly Georgina hasn't done any more acting work since the Weirdsister College series finished a couple of years ago.

She won the "Best Performance in a TV Comedy Series - Leading Young Actress" at the Twenty-First Annual Young Artists Awards (1998-1999), beating two other American candidates.  She had to go to Hollywood to collect her award!

The Internet Movie Database places her date of birth as in the year of 1985, and she reportedly stayed at home during the filming of Weirdsister College as she lived by the set.  The IMDb also gives her name as "Ann Georgina Sherrington" - I do not know why this is.

30th May 2006: a new Wikipedia article states that she was born in Ecuador (as the above name), and is currently at Princeton University (yes, the Ivy League university in the US, which would be why we haven't seen her around here for a while!) studying English.  According to the article, she continues to act, and is a member of Theater Intime, Princeton's student run dramatic society, is on the board of the Princeton Shakespeare Company and in April this year directed a production of Love's Labour's Lost.  An apparant quote from one of her friends is given:

"Although this comes as no surprise to her biggest fans, Georgie is a shining light in the theater community, and has won hearts and minds throughout the Princeton community with her merest glances!"

She is also a member of the Princeton Tower Club, one of ten "eating clubs" at the University.  For more information see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eating_clubs_%28Princeton_University%29

Georgina also spent a day in 2002 at The Young Hero Awards set up by The National Kidney Research Fund entertaining the nominees and their families with other well-known children's TV presenters and actors. http://www.nkrf.org.uk/pages/news/youngheroes2002.htm
This link takes you to a page with a photo of some of the participants.  Someone who looks like Georgina appars to be in the second row from the top, on the right next to the woman in the orange boiler suit.
